TERMS OF USE

The ground rules,
in plain words.

By using Buckler you agree to these terms. Last updated October 13, 2026.

Using Buckler

These terms cover Buckler’s website, web app and installed app. By using any of them, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Buckler.

What Buckler offers

Buckler is a set of free tools for reading and studying Scripture: Bible texts, commentaries, cross-references, word study, a library of classic books, and a place to keep your own notes and prayers. It is provided as it is, and we may improve, change or remove parts of it over time.

Scripture and reference texts

Bible translations, commentaries and other works belong to their authors, translators and publishers, or are in the public domain. Most of what is in Buckler is public domain, and some is used under open licenses or with permission. Each source and its license is listed on the Sources page. You are welcome to read and study them in Buckler for yourself. If you want to copy, republish or distribute a text beyond personal use, please check the terms of its source, because we cannot grant rights we do not hold.

Historic works and their views

The commentaries, dictionaries and classic books in Buckler are historical works. They reflect the views and the language of their authors and their times. Including a work does not mean we agree with everything in it, and they are not a substitute for the counsel of your pastor or church.

Using Buckler fairly

Please use Buckler lawfully and considerately. Do not try to disrupt or overload the service, break into accounts or systems, copy the app’s code or data in bulk, or use automated tools to scrape it. Do not use Buckler to harass anyone or to break the law.

Accounts

An account is optional and lets your study sync between devices. You sign in with Google or an emailed code, and you are responsible for keeping that access secure. You must be at least 13 years old to make an account. You can delete your account at any time from Settings, which permanently deletes it along with the data synced to it.

Your notes and prayers

What you write is yours. We store it for you, and process it only to save it, sync it between your devices, and show it back to you. You can export it or delete it whenever you like.

Voluntary contributions

Buckler may accept contributions toward its upkeep. They are entirely voluntary, do not unlock any features, and are not tax-deductible. Reading and studying in Buckler never depends on giving. Contributions are processed by a payment provider under its own terms, and if one was made in error, contact us and we will help.

Links and third-party services

Buckler relies on and links to services run by others, such as the sources of its texts, photos and sounds, and sign-in providers. We are not responsible for their content or practices.

No warranty

Buckler is provided “as is” and “as available”, without promises of any kind. We work to keep the texts accurate, but we cannot guarantee that they are free of errors, that Buckler will always be available, or that it will meet your particular needs. Please keep a backup of anything you cannot afford to lose.

Limit of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of Buckler, including lost data. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under the law where you live that cannot be limited.

Changes

We may update these terms as Buckler grows. We will change the date above and, for meaningful changes, say so on the What’s new page. Using Buckler after a change means you accept the updated terms.
