PRIVACY POLICY

Your study
stays yours.

This explains what Buckler stores, where it lives, and who else handles it. Last updated October 13, 2026.

The short version.
  • Buckler works without an account. Your notes, highlights, bookmarks and prayers are saved on your device.
  • If you sign in, that study is also saved to your account so it can follow you between devices.
  • We do not sell your data, show ads, or add advertising or analytics trackers.
  • You can export your notes, and delete your account and its synced data, whenever you like.

Who we are

Buckler is a Bible reading and study app made by an independent developer, referred to here as “we”. If you have a question about this policy or your data, use the contact page.

What stays on your device

Everything you create in Buckler is first saved in your browser’s storage on your own device: notes, highlights, bookmarks, prayers, reading history, reading plan progress, your place, and your settings. If you never sign in, none of it is sent to us. Clearing your browser’s site data removes it, so use Backup in Settings now and then, or sign in so it is saved elsewhere too.

What we store if you sign in

An account is optional. When you create one, we store:

  • Your email address and a unique account ID.
  • The study data you create, such as notes, highlights, bookmarks, prayers, plan progress, settings and where you left off, in our database, so it syncs between your devices.
  • Your sign-ins: when each one started, when it was last used, and the browser’s name text. Settings shows these so you can sign other devices out. We do not store IP addresses in this list.

There is no password to store. You sign in with Google or with a code sent to your email.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell or rent your information.
  • We do not show ads, and we do not add advertising or analytics trackers to the app or this site.
  • We do not read your notes or prayers, and we do not share them with anyone to advertise to you.

Who else handles data

We use a few providers to run Buckler. Each handles only what its job needs.

  • Cloudflare hosts this site and the app, and handles the requests to them. Like any host, it may keep standard technical logs, such as IP addresses.
  • Supabase runs the database and sign-in for accounts, so it holds the account and synced data described above.
  • Resend sends the emails that contain your sign-in code.
  • Google handles sign-in if you choose “Continue with Google”, and shares basic profile details such as your email. If you write to us, your message passes through our email inbox, which is a Google Mail account.
  • Wikimedia Commons serves the Selah soundscapes, and Unsplash serves the Selah backdrop photos. Your device requests them directly when you play a sound or show a backdrop, so they can see your IP address like any website you visit.
  • A payment provider processes any contribution you choose to make. We do not receive or store your card details.

Cookies and browser storage

We do not use tracking or advertising cookies. The app uses your browser’s storage to keep your data and settings, to keep you signed in, and to keep the Bibles you have opened available offline.

Messages you send us

If you contact us, we receive your email address and what you wrote. We use it to reply and to improve Buckler, and keep it as long as it is useful.

Keeping and deleting your data

To delete your account, open Settings, then Account and Sync, and choose Delete account. This permanently deletes your account and the study data synced to it, straight away. Data saved on your own device stays there until you clear it, so export what you want to keep first. Our providers may hold routine backup copies for a limited time after deletion.

Children

Buckler is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly create accounts for them. If you believe a child has made an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Your rights

You can see and export your notes at any time (Backup, and Export notes as Markdown), correct them by editing them, and delete them. Depending on where you live, privacy laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA may give you further rights over your personal information. To use any of them, or to ask what we hold about you, contact us.

Security

Data travels over encrypted connections, and rules in the database restrict your synced data to your own account. No service can promise perfect security, so please keep your Google or email account secure too.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for meaningful changes, say so on the What’s new page.
